In 2008 Haiti was hit by four hurricanes creating much suffering across the island. Some of us were deeply concerned that, while some pastors had cell phones, those phones could not be used to keep the central church informed as to their welfare, because they had no way to re-charge them. We became aware that some did not even have radio contact because batteries are short-lived.
BEM Ministires
Solar Cooker Project
Purpose:
To help Haitian people cook their food less expensively and to help reduce the amount of trees that are cut down each year for the purpose of making charcoal.
80 years ago, Haiti was 60% forested. Today less than 2% is forested.
Small Loan Program
The BEM Small Loan Program will be set up in the months to come. Supporters will be provided opportunities to help Haitians set up small businesses by way of small loans. The goal is to help the local people to become self-sufficient and encourage the entrepreneurial spirit in Haiti.
Stay tuned for more details to come...
Food Distribution Program
The food collection and distribution program has taken on new meaning lately. With the destruction caused by the earthquake in Haiti in January, we have stepped up efforts to collect and distribute food to the Haitian community.
There are a number of Dropoff locations around the state of CT where you can donate the currently needed items.
These items will be packed into containers and shipped to Haiti on regular basis.
BEM Institute for Theological Studies
Purpose:
To respond to the request of Pastors for recognition of theological studies through BEM;
To equip workers with a more extensive understanding of the Bible, Theology and Pastoral Practice for the work of the ministry.
Child Sponsorship Program
You Can Make Poverty History
The average Haitian families are living on less than a dollar a day. Millions of Haiti's children are all to familiar with extreme poverty. It has robbed them of hope and threatens to steal their future. We can help these children experience the fullness of life that God offers.
Well Digging Project
Water is LIFE, and if we are in the life-changing business we need to provide that which sustains life!
Due to the lack of water sanitation in Haiti, BEM takes action along with the spread of the Gospel by providing clean drinkable water to the villages we serve. According to the latest statistics, 85% of illnesses that occur in Haiti is a direct result from drinking unclean water. BEM has made this well digging project one of its main goals.
In every area BEM has planted a church, we aim to provide a well to these communities.
